i wonder why sometimes
that’s the whole sentence

i wonder
why
life bleeds the way it does
til you’re dry and cracked and broken beyond repair
or why life bleeds the way it does
the good parts soaking into the bad
covering everything in a sticky red wave

and i wonder why life
what put us here to be
to breathe
to bleed
til our lungs can take no more
til our souls and our soles are straining with the exhaustion of carrying the weight
til our flesh and our fruit is sickeningly sweet
with ripening
until its rotting off the bone

and i wonder why life is
cruel and cold and teeth and nail
soft like the skin of a child
dragged by the hair until it breaks and blows away in the wind

and i wonder
what
who
why
life did this
life is this
life is like
to fill our bodies with feeling until we beg to feel no more
until we fill our bodies with failing and we beg for just one more
life
to live
to feel the feeling of failing again
just so we don’t have to feel nothing
again
