snow | 7.13.26
tissues litter the floor
like snow fallen on the roof of a home that has never known a warm hearth
eyes and nose and brick crack
with disservice
and you know those who pass by only see the surface

your confirmation affirmation sounds like the excitement of a dog
begging you in distraction to avoid the destruction
a fight with yourself you know you’ll never win
a right in yourself you know you know you’ll never wrong
and a stupid whine all the same

six years dormant and i thought i was safe
but safe means nothing when there was never a place to escape
to erase
to wait the fates and the string i helped them tie around my neck
to weigh the world on my shoulders and decide its not worth the pain

so i wait
and tissues litter the floor
like snow
fallen on the roof of a home that has never known a warm hearth
and i wait
like a dog
tail between my legs
and a collar that just falls off
and a right that will never be wronged
